My New Toy
Posted on | October 1, 2006 | No Comments
Most likely overkill for who I am and what I want to do with it, but I recently bought this little toy to augment my running and postpone my foot pain and or surgery or lopping it off at some point. So I bike… about 20 miles a day during the week, longer rides on the weekend.
Here it is is…
Shimano FCM-442-8 crankset, Octalink Spline, 9-speed, replaceable rings w/ alloy outer
Custom Shimano Hollowtech crankset, Octalink XT Spline
FSR M4 butted frame w/ ORE downtube, sealed cartridge bearing pivots, replaceable derailleur hanger, two sets of water bottle bosses, disc only, 100mm travel
X Fusion 02RC, Specialized tuned shock
Rock Shox Recon 335 fork
Avid Juicy 3, hydraulic disc brakes
NO CLUE WHAT ANY OF THIS MEANS… but I rock! But now I need a lock, a helmet, bike repair kit, new shorts (with pad, big ones in special tender areas) and a bike rack for the SUV… hate taking the front wheel off every time I go somewhere. A crazy investment, but I need it! Toys!
My foot is not as sore when I ride, oh it hurts a bit still, but the pain in my arse is the real issue… how in the world did Lance or anyone stay on that little seat for so long. Deferred pain in buttock, relieves the foot issues.
Amazing also to me is the concept of distance. Ride and ride and ride and look at the indicator, 10 miles, felt like 30 plus. really puts into perspective the Tour de France.
The training continues…
Need a Hotel

Need Amsterdam suggestions… amazing how hard it is to find a place to stay overseas. So many options, reviews, comments, the lack to just pick up the phone and speak with someone, the desire to stay in a local place, not a chain – it is all amazing to me how much of a challenge it can be…
31 days from now… the trip begins.
Age & Body Issues…

Old age is brutal…
In Marathon prep, adding miles, doing yoga, biking miles galore etc my body is angry. Between my feet, tripping and falling down like a moron, skinning both knees, adding bruises to my knee caps and hurting my rib (yes, it was a stupid thing to do, but the iPod was safe) and going to the dentist for 2 crowns (of which i still have to go back next week for final fitting because i feared eating some form of Greek cuisine and cracking a tooth and having Fiddler on the Roof do my reconstruction) I am not 100%.
I attribute this to old age and my desire to turn back the clock. Simple.
But I persist. Yoga is painful and I am not getting the full benefit, running is stressed due to the foot fracture… And my ego is bruised because I refuse to slow down…
At this rate, if I live to see the Marathon, it might turn into a 10K, or succession of 10K

Greece… The Wheels are in Motion – Part 1

Well the stages of the Journey to Greece and the Marathon/Half Marathon (or whatever my body says it will do by that time) are coming together.
Stage 1 – Plan the trip
