Grand Canyon Trip Option #1
Posted on | July 31, 2009 | No Comments
This is a rim to rim option #1, looking at a few ideas, this one is nice, but a little more heavily traveled so… looking for less people, more strenuous and longer… This hike is 20 miles one way, so 40 for the back to back journey.
Grand Canyon National Park: Rim-to-Rim via South Kaibab Trail
This 18.9-mile route starts at South Kaibab Trailhead on the Grand Canyon’s South Rim and immediately descends into the belly of the Grand Canyon on South Kaibab Trail. Along the way, the route passes O’Neill Butte, Skeleton Point, and breathtaking views of the surrounding canyons. At the bottom, cross Black Bridge, a suspension bridge over the Colorado River, and head west to Phantom Ranch and the mouth of Bright Angel Canyon. The route winds to the north up this pinched canyon for 8.7 miles, crisscrossing Bright Angel Creek numerous times. After 14.8 miles, you’ll catch the first views of the North Rim as you pass Roaring Springs and enter Roaring Springs Canyon. The trip finishes with brief stretch through the Supai Tunnel

New cool feature on Google now, Google Voice. I just signed up, for free, and the features are amazing. It will convert voicemail to text and email / SMS the transcript to you, you can set it up to block an individual or groups and it acts as a “one number” service – meaning, give just this number out and it will ring where ever you want or in as many places at the same as you want….
The button below is set up to go straight to voice mail for now…
I got the closest number I could to the “Jenny Jenny…” 513-876-5303 – just missed the last 9… oh well.
Seattle Rock-n-Roll Half Marathon

So one more half marathon in the bag… ran the Inaugural Seattle Rock-n-Roll Half Marathon. There were 25,000 entrants, sold out, no wait list, big big event. In looking at the results, there were a little over 15,000 that finished (wonder how many started but didn’t finish verses entered but never started).
Here is a pre-race picture with “coach Lorraine”, who, without her, I probably would not have made the time I did….
Felt good during most of the race, still had the foot issue, but fought through it for the most part and ended up with my best time – beat the last half marathon I did in Phoenix (Jan 09) by 20+ minutes with a 9:30 per minute mile.
Thinking of doing one more this year, a half marathon hat trick if you will…. Maybe the Vegas one or the San Antonio one… hmmmm, decisions.
For doing 2 in one calendar year, they also give you this medal… I need it!

REI Dividend

So I had to figure out what to do with my dividend check from REI, could not just let it sit there, it must be used. So Zoe is the recipient of a new toy, OllyDog Dog Pack. Yes, she has to carry her own gear up and down on the hike.
It will be interesting to see how she takes to it…
